Jarod Scott for US House – TN 5th District

jarod-scott-for-us-house-tn-5th-district

I BELIEVE…
God calls us to put family first.
Opportunity is the American Dream.
Personal responsibility, hard work, and competition improve our quality of life.
Profitable businesses provide value and increase opportunities.
Everyday folks like you and I can impact our world.

“Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion.”
-Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

My goal in taking up the banner of freedom, hope, and opportunity for every individual in the 5th Congressional district is not to represent a career, but to represent the true servant spirit that our Congress is called to. They are called to represent the ideal of Cincinnatus of Rome; the calling that we are to serve our neighbors in honor and then relinquish those reins of power so as to not be corrupted. Serve to the best of our ability and limit our own selfish desire for more power to create an environment where others are empowered to leave their own legacy of freedom, hope, and opportunity.

A colleague at work once described me as “passionate about my family, my community, and my work.” It is that passion for life and the ability to express that passion to inspire others that has brought me to you today. I’m neither an amazing genius nor some man of great wisdom. I’m just an average American with a passion to help and protect others. It is this very passion that has led me to where I stand today.

It was as a young man working summers in a metal welding shop near the public housing in Nashville, in the editors office of the local news paper in Mount Juliet, in the tobacco fields of Wilson County, or over the grills at my local McDonalds that I was convinced—with further encouragement from my father—that opportunity comes to those who work hard.

After my second year of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature on the University of Tennessee’s delegation, I was convinced that our nation was not meant to be led by career politicians. Our founding fathers did not mean for our government to become an elitist ruling class void of hope. They desired a people of conviction for the principle of the public servant—not the career politician.

The freedom, hope, and opportunity for all that God has blessed us with is not government provided. It comes from individual drive, responsibility, and perseverance. This is why my goal is to continue to take up the banner of freedom, hope, and opportunity for every individual in the 5th Congressional district no matter your race, creed, preference, or national origin. It is not to represent a career, but to represent the true servant spirit that our Congress is called to. We must make it clearly known that they are to represent the ideal of Cincinnatus of Rome; the calling that we are to serve our neighbors in honor and then relinquish those reigns of power so as to not be corrupted. We are to serve to the best of our ability and limit our own selfish desire for more power. We must create an environment where others are empowered to leave their own legacy of freedom, hope, and opportunity for the sake of not only our children and grandchildren, but for our world.

David Hall for US Congress – TN 5th District

david-hall-for-us-congress-tn-5th-district

I’ve been supporting my family as a small business owner since 1989. I am a licensed general contractor and electrician for the State of Tennessee. I own, manage and operate David Hall Homes, in Nashville.

In 1985 I married my best friend, Michelle. She and our five children are my most dedicated, enthusiastic and supportive volunteers. We live in Goodlettsville, Tennessee on a small 5 acre farm with pet dogs, horses, chickens, ducks and a miniature donkey we call “Jim”.

In the early 1990’s I began work with FEMA. This allowed me to help many people in need. My work has given me the opportunity to travel to Africa, Egypt, Honduras, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Scotland and many places in between. As great as many of these places are, they always remind me how great the United States is.

I was raised by my grandparents. My childhood memories are full of my grandfather, Howard Hall, faithfully going to the polls at every election. He believed that voting was more than his right, it was his duty. As I’ve witnessed election cycles come and go, I have come to realize that while voting is essential, it is not enough.

Our country is great. It was made great by the citizens within her borders, people like you and me, and not the politicians who seek to control her. In recent decades, our government has been over-run with career politicians. I believe we should give these men and women the benefit of the doubt. By this, I mean it is probably true that they arrived in Washington with the best of admirable intentions. Overtime we have seen these people consumed by compromise and deal making.

Voters should ask, “What then is the difference between David Hall and many already in Washington?”

My answer, “Like the houses I build, people are only as strong as the foundations their lives are built on.” As a child, I was taught ‘right from wrong’, not ‘kind of right from kind of wrong.’ Everyone must come to point of decision in their lives, were they firmly establish boundaries for behavior, decisions and conduct. I was fortunate to cross this point of decision as a young man. I determined that my decisions should be rooted in wisdom and my conscience clear; my example should be one of integrity; my speech should be seasoned with grace; work is good for a person; a lie is no more wrong over a business deal than it is over a stolen cookie; my choices have consequences and I am responsible for them both; and God, the United States Constitution and family should be more than just terms of endearment.

James Whitfield for US Congress – TN 5th District

james-whitfield-for-us-congress-tn-5th-district

Over the past eight years James has become increasingly concerned with the self-serving mindset of the United States Congress. He has watched the country’s leaders as well as his representatives in the Congress make decisions which have led America into the economic turmoil it is currently experiencing as well as the continued loss of American lives overseas. As the author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, wrote, “all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves”. This has been the case for so many Americans throughout the years while the government of our country has walked all over the rights of its citizens.

James, along with Americans all across this great land, is saying enough is enough. It is time to get representation in Washington that has read and believes in the constitution. Representation that understands that the job of a representative is to represent their constituents through conducting government business on behalf of their constituents bidding and not the bidding of a political party. It is time to take America back from the greedy, power hungry elitists that have entrenched themselves in “Washington Politics” so much that they are unable to relate to the men and women whose voices they are intended to echo.

James was born in Italy during the time that his parents were stationed there while serving in the US Air Force. After his parents divorce his mother moved him and his sister back to the United States. Over the next several years he lived in multiple states and graduated high school from Shelby County High School in Columbiana, Alabama.

After graduation, Whitfield enlisted into the United States Army as an Airborne Infantryman stationed Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division and in late 1997 received an honorable discharge from the Army. During his time in the service he learned the value of teamwork as well as the ever-important belief that with hard work one can succeed no matter what the obstacles.

Whitfield stayed in Fayetteville, North Carolina and held various sales jobs. After struggling for a year to make ends meet he moved back to Columbiana, Alabama and partnered with a friend to start his first small business. While this first business venture was completely unsuccessful it instilled in him a love for taking an idea and creating something tangible. While working as an electrician Whitfield enrolled in Herzing College in Birmingham, Alabama and studied computer networking. After a year in school he transitioned from electrician to network consultant and began servicing small businesses around Birmingham.

After receiving his associate degree in 2002 Whitfield accepted a position with one of his clients as their IT Director and moved to Lexington, Kentucky. He assisted his employer, a manufacturing company, with various growth initiatives and production improvements that helped the company grow by more than 300% over three years. During the four and a half years he lived and worked in Kentucky he earned a double B.S. with majors in Computer Science and Finance from Sullivan University.

In 2006 Whitfield accepted a position with a software consulting company and moved to Nashville, TN. Over the past three and a half years he has consulted with numerous companies around the Greater Nashville Area on growth initiatives, improving processes and procedures, as well as market expansion while taking advantage of available technologies.

Vijay Kumar for US Congress – TN 5th District

vijay-kumar-for-us-congress-tn-5th-district

I am Vijay Kumar, and I am running for the 5th District Congressional seat presently held by Jim Cooper. I am an immigrant from India who has lived in Nashville for twenty-one years, and when I ran in the last election, I was blessed with winning almost a third of the vote.

I am running again because Congress has failed to take leadership on the issues of illegal immigration, taxation, English as our official language, our economy, healthcare reform, abortion, and the War on Terror, and I hope you share my belief that it is time for new leadership.

As an immigrant, I know firsthand the value of coming to America lawfully. I am grateful for having been given the opportunity to live the American dream.

Today, the fabric of that dream is being torn apart by multiculturalism, “political correctness,” illegal immigration, and radical Islamic terrorism. While many immigrants come here legally, eager to assimilate into American culture, others come with the purpose of replacing the American way of life. They seek to function as a state-within-a-state, with laws based upon the culture of their homeland that would destroy U.S. constitutional law. This cannot be allowed for any reason.

For illegal immigrants there should be no amnesty, and all the immigration laws must be rigorously enforced as a national security issue. We must grant citizenship only to those who vow to embrace and defend American values and culture.

We must affirm English as our official language. Linguistic divisions among people are as destructive as racial and religious divisions.

To save our economy we must adopt the Fair Tax plan. It abolishes the IRS, and casts off the heavy chains of federal personal and corporate income taxes, inheritance taxes, social security taxes, and a host of others, replacing them with one simple federal retail sales tax. Families would be taxed only on what they spend, not on what they earn, save, and wish to leave to their children. Americans spend more than $150 billion dollars annually for the preparation of taxes. What a waste!

It’s estimated that a staggering $20 trillion sits parked outside the United States in tax havens. The Fair Tax will bring that money home to rebuild domestic industry and jobs.

Our health care delivery system is broken, and a bandage won’t fix it. The quality of healthcare delivery deteriorates in every country where universal healthcare exists. Consumer-based health care is the answer, not employer-based, not government-based.

I am pro-life, unwaveringly and without compromise. Adoption and education are the solutions. The two-parent, father-mother family is the framework upon which our values are built. Anyone who seeks to destroy the family seeks to destroy the nation.

Congress’s strategy for fighting the global war on terror is a failure. I maintain that this war can be won :

*
within five years, and,
*
for less than a billion dollars, and
*
without the loss of further American life.

It must be waged on multiple fronts: ideological, financial, and military.

We must openly declare an ideological war on militant Jihadists, the real source of terrorism. We must stop all forms of aid to terrorist-supporting nations such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the Palestinian territories, regardless of any short-term gain we derive from supporting them. Meanwhile, we must strengthen our ties with neighboring democratic nations and support their efforts to fight our common enemy, Universal Jihad.

We must create a coalition of democracies that have been targets of International Jihad, including the United States, Britain, Western Europe, India, South Africa, Israel, Russia, and Japan so that all may join to stop global terrorism, and together we must establish and maintain a strong, lasting military presence in the Middle East.

In the end, I can only be your representative in Congress if I am accessible to all of you, my constituents. You have my promise that your concerns and interests will always be heard.

My family and I thank you for your support in my run for the 5th District Congressional seat. We ask your prayers for almighty God to bless us in this cause. Only by His aid and assistance can we succeed.

Respectfully,

Vijay Kumar

Patrick Miranda for US Congress – TN 5th District

patrick-miranda-for-us-congress-tn-5th-district

Miranda4Congress“I will recover the country or die in the attempt” Nathanael Greene, An American Revolutionary War General

I do not seek office for power, but out of concern for the future of our country. I am not afraid to stand up for my beliefs. I am sick and tired of Washington’s reckless spending without listening to the will of the American people. We must fight for a smaller federal government and to protect our American institutions. I feel that both political parties need to be held accountable for their actions.

It is time for someone with courage to stand up to both parties and say, “Enough is Enough!” I am going to Washington as a father and as a concerned citizen to fight for the people, to fight for our freedoms, and to defend our constitution. I will fight for all people regardless of political party, race, creed, or nationality. Our politicians are not fighting for we the people, but rather for their own political power and gain.

If you feel that enough is enough, and that you are not being heard by members of Congress, regardless of party, then support me in November 2010 for U.S. Congress.

Lonnie Spivak for US Congress – TN 5th District

lonnie-spivak-for-us-congress-tn-5th-district

SpivakPosterA native Nashvillian, Lonnie grew up in the Bellevue area, where he attended the Hillwood school cluster. Upon graduating high school, he moved to Atlanta where he enrolled in the Art Institute of Atlanta. After a stint in Georgia, Lonnie decided that he wanted to continue his design education closer to home. He transferred to Middle Tennessee State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, later he attended Vanderbilt University’s School of Engineering and received a Microsoft Systems Engineer certification.

In 1996, Lonnie married Staci, the love of his life, and joined Burgundy Group Advertising. Since that time, he has launched AdVerb Design, a full-service design firm, and C-Suite Portfolios, a company that produces portfolio resumes for professionals seeking new opportunities.

Throughout his career, Lonnie has always found ample time to spend with his two daughters, Gillian and Lexi. He also works with a number of noteworthy charities, including the T.J. Martell Foundation, which funds critical research in cancer, leukemia, and AIDS.

In fact, Lonnie is just like tens of thousands of other individuals who live in Tennessee’s fifth district— hard-working, principled, and hoping to create a brighter future for our children- and their children.

Lonnie’s interest in politics began in 1992 during the presidential campaign season. He really found his conservative roots during the 1994 mid-term elections when Newt Gingrich and the “Contract for America” took the political pundits by surprise and Republicans took control of the House. Lonnie came to realize that the philosophies of Ronald Reagan were vital to a strong and healthy America.

Ever since, Lonnie has pursued a conservative path with unwavering commitment. He has never been timid regarding his point of view and he never apologizes for his philosophies. Additionally, he doesn’t bow to political correctness. Instead, Lonnie believes that our system of government was not designed for career politicians. He believes that a strong defense is essential for peace. But first and foremost, Lonnie believes that small, limited government is imperative for the future of our children and grandchildren. It is essential to ensure that they enjoy the same liberties and freedoms enjoyed by our generation and those before us.

Initially, Lonnie was inspired to pursue political office after participating in the Tax Day Tea Party Protest. The thought that a group of tens of thousands of people across the country, many of whom had no previous protest experience, were coming together to fight the Left in Washington moved him deeply. He desires to return our government to one that remembers the first words of the Preamble, “We the People.” Lonnie’s greatest hope is to bring the philosophies of Ronald Reagan back to prominence, to restore the United States as the envy of the world, and return us to an economic superpower.
