David Oatney for TN GOP State Exec Committee – TN 4th Dist Rep
The Tennessee Republican State Executive Committee (SEC) is the State party’s rulemaking and governing body, and the members of the SEC are elected to four-year terms by State Senate district. One man and one woman are elected for each Senate district for a total of 66 members. Members also function as their party’s State primary election board.
I chose to run for the SEC in order to bring an activist voice to the body, especially from someone involved in new media and conservative blogging/podcasting. I have spent several years now attempting to illustrate to others the importance of involvement in bodies like the Executive Committee, because change can’t come from within the system unless those who want a more conservative GOP and government become involved in the process. I also believe that it is time for me to put my money where my mouth is, and that if I am going to preach activism to others, I must adhere to that gospel myself. Most importantly, I want to serve my community and my local Republican Party-my town and community often find themselves under-represented on county party bodies while producing good candidates for public office for the whole county.
I want to provide a consistent, conservative voice from East Tennessee on the GOP State Executive Committee. I am committed to a spirit of openness about a body that many voters do not even know exists but which has great influence.
SEC members are not reimbursed for travel to Nashville or compensated in any way their service to the Republican Party and the State during their four-year term of office-it is a voluntary position, much like that of constable in many of Tennessee’s rural areas. Running for the office, however, can still be an expense, especially in a geographically large district like the 4th. Candidates for the State Executive Committee appear on the State Republican Primary ballot in August (and are elected at that time), and must qualify just as candidates for the Legislature do. Your donation to my campaign will help defray the cost of travel to Republican Party functions throughout the district, as well as the cost of items such as push cards and leaflets as I visit Lincoln Day dinners, Republican picnics, and other community events where primary voters might be eager to hear about my candidacy and message.
I am committed to bringing the work of the Republican State Executive Committee in Tennessee to the voters its members-one of I hope to be-are elected to serve.
